Physical characteristics

  • · Around 6.5- 12.8ft

  • · Sleek, smooth, rubbery skin

  • · Pectoral flippers (breast/chest) are slightly curved back and pointed at the tips

  • · From the tip of each fluke (lobe of the dolphin’s tale) to the next measures 23.4in.

  • · Has 18-26 teeth on each side of the upper jaw leaving a total of 72-104 teeth which are designed to grasp and are never replaced.

  • · Their dorsal fin is found at the center of their backs. Its shape varies from different sizes. It contains no bones, no cartilage or muscle.

  • · The melon which is the rounded region of a dolphin’s forehead contains fat and it pays an important role in the dolphin’s echolocation

  • · Eyes are on the sides of their heads and close to their mouth
